Language Arts

The focus on term one is discussions (including social etiquette), novel studies, and looking at the vaious form of written language.

Math

This term we will be working on Probability, Graphing, Basic skills (+, -, x, ÷) and decimals/negative numbers.

If parents would like to help their child learn probability and the basic math skills, I make the suggestion to play card and dice games together. Crib, 21, and Yatzee are fantasic games to strengthen these skills.

Science

This term we are focusing on forces, simple and compound machines, robotics and will wind up with an abbreviated unit on electricity.

Social Studies

Culture is the main focus for Social Studies this term. This includes Personal and Family culture as well as Canadian and Ancestral culture.

For a sample of interview questions, see Language Arts section.

LID - Personal Project

Engaging in our own learning is the key to being a life-long learner. This year, our class will be participating in Ms. Monks' Learning in Depth challenge which not only allows students to investigate and learn about a topic of their own choice, will help to promote life-long learning and research skills, as well as becoming responsible for their own learning.

Being familiar with a topic and becoming a class specialist, students will research and explore areas of their own interest. Learning In Depth will promote taking risks as well challenge students to become empowered in their own learning.
